Gerry Adams and Fergus O'Dowd elected in Louth
Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams and Fine Gael candidate Fergus O’Dowd have both been elected to the five-seat Louth constituency on the first vote.
SINN FÉIN LEADER Gerry Adams and Fine Gael candidate Fergus O’Dowd have both been elected to Louth on the first vote.
Adams received almost 2,00o over the quota of 13,864, while O’Dowd received 13,980 votes.
The candidates with the next-highest number of votes were Labour’s Ged Nash (8,718) and Fine Gael’s Peter Fitzpatrick (7,845).
Séamus Kirk, the current Ceann Comhairle, also has a seat in the constituency by virtue of his office.
No further candidates were elected on the first round and will go to the second count.
