A GARDA INVESTIGATION is under way into the alleged discovery of drugs in a HSE ambulance in Dublin.

It’s understood that the issue came to light last week after HSE management reported the alleged discovery to the gardaí, and that the drug in question is cocaine.

Several National Ambulance Service (NAS) staff are understood to have been suspended pending the outcome of inquiries.

Sources have confirmed that Garda Commissioner Noirín O’Sullivan’s brother David, a paramedic with the NAS, is one of the staff that has been suspended in the alleged incident.

“A number of matters were reported by the management of the National Ambulance Service to gardaí in Blanchardstown,” a Garda spokesman said.

An investigation has commenced under the direction of Chief Superintendent at Blanchardstown Pat Clavin.
As the investigation is ongoing it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.
