A 31-YEAR-OLD man has been convicted of murdering his two-month-old daughter in Preston, England, today.

John Burrill had admitted the manslaughter of his daughter Daisy Mae.

Daisy Mae was found to have suffered a large fracture to her skull together with injuries consistent with having been shaken when found in the early hours of 11 March this year in the town of Fleetwood.

Burrill had called an ambulance after claiming to have found her unresponsive at 3.30am on that date.

She was taken at the time to nearby Blackpool Victoria Hospital after suffering a suspected heart attack. She died three days later.

A Home Office investigation revealed Daisy Mae had died from her head injury. Burrill was subsequently arrested for her murder, while a 29-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of having allowed the death of the baby.

That woman was subsequently released without charge.

“Daisy Mae’s father John Burrill was in a position of trust – however, he abused this in a violent outburst which tragically led to her death,” said Detective Chief Inspector Dean Holden of Lancashire Police following the verdict.

While we will never know exactly what happened, his actions showed a man with extreme disregard for his defenceless baby daughter.
Burrill is clearly a dangerous individual whose shocking actions robbed a family of a loved one.

Daisy Mae’s mother Ashlee Cox meanwhile said that “words cannot express the pain and anguish my family have endured” since her daughter’s death.

“Even though Daisy has gone, she will never be forgotten,” she said.

She will be forever in our hearts and although justice has been served it will never bring her back.
John Burrill will be sentenced tomorrow.
