Senator Katherine Zappone proposed to her partner today (and she wasn't the only one)

There were emotional scenes at Dublin Castle today.

WE WERE EXPECTING some proposals if the marriage referendum passed, but two? And so quickly? You’re spoiling us.

Senator Katherine Zappone surprised Miriam O’Callaghan (seriously, listen to her surprised gasp) by proposing to her partner Ann-Louise Gilligan live on RTÉ this afternoon:

Paul Hosford / Vine

Zappone and Gilligan were married in Canada, and have been fighting for the State to recognise their marriage here since 2004.

She then got to do it AGAIN, this time, face to face, in front of thousands of people.

Senator David Norris, speaking with Zappone at Dublin Castle earlier, requested to be a ‘flower girl’ at the ceremony. We would expect nothing less.

Meanwhile, down in Limerick, Billie and Kate got engaged just as the last ballot box was tallied:

Ah here. It’d bring a tear to a glass eye.
