THE NUMBER OF industrial disputes was down in the first quarter of this year when compared to the same period of 2011, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office.
The statistics show that there was one dispute in progress in the first quarter of 2012, involving a total of 75 workers and one firm (Vita Cortex).
In contrast, there were three disputes ongoing during the same period last year. These disputes involved 335 workers and resulted in 2,451 days lost.
The figures are based on details supplied by the Industrial Relations Section, Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation and on information collected directly from other sources by the Central Statistics Office.
An incident is regarded as a dispute it involves a stoppage of work lasting for at least one day and the total time lost is 10 or more person-days (the average amount of work done by one person in one day).
