A NEW DOCUMENTARY shot with a 360° camera records the lives and the memories of the few remaining residents of a flat complex in Dublin city.
The Last Days of The Flats is an RTÉ Prime Time documentary exploring the O’Devaney Gardens flats complex in Dublin north – close to the inner city.
O’Devaney gardens once housed over 270 families families, however much of the complex has now been demolished and few families remain.
The Prime Time documentary is novel in that it is fully shot with a 360° camera – the first ever Irish short documentary to have been done so.
The unique format allows viewers to control where the camera is looking – exploring what’s going on in the background and around shots.
Anyone watching on their phone or tablet can control the movement of the camera by moving their phone while pc and laptop users can click and drag to change the view.
As the remaining residents talk about their memories of the flat complex, viewers can examine the remaining units and the surrounding areas for themselves.
The remaining four blocks of O’Devaney gardens have fewer than 10 occupied units and are expected to be torn down in the next 12 months.
This new documentary provides an innovative way for people to take a look at the flats in their last days while listening to residents share their the memories and stories of the place.
