THE TRIAL OF a man accused of the murder of rugby player Shane Geoghegan has been postponed for one day following the discharging of the jury.

Barry Doyle, 24, of Portland Row in Dublin and Hyde Road in Limerick, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Shane Geoghegan in November 2008.

Geoghegan was shot near his home in Dooradoyle in Limerick on November 9, 2008 in a suspected case of mistaken identity.

The trial’s presiding judge, Justice Paul Carney, told the jury of seven men and five women who were sworn in this morning that he would have to discharge them, RTÉ reports. He said he would not be revealing the reason for doing so at this stage.

A new jury will be sworn in tomorrow at 11am.
