DRAMATIC IMAGES OF Mount Etna, Sicily, have been posted online after the volcano briefly erupted last night.
The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology said a slight increase in volcanic tremors was recorded at around 9pm on Tuesday night, and that activity peaked at 7am local time yesterday.
The movement resulted in the “resumption of weak eruptive activity” at the world’s largest active volcano which gradually increased, leading to lava overflowing at around 9 o’clock last night for an hour.
BNO News reports that the lava flow did not endanger towns and cities nearby. No one was injured.
The AP reports that ash blown out of the volcano forced the local Catania-Fontanarossa airport to close overnight, disrupting a small number of domestic flights.
