Skoda Rapid

Skoda's Rapid has had a bit of a facelift

The new Skoda Rapid and Rapid Spaceback will make their public debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

NOT CONTENT WITH updating its popular Octavia, Skoda has also refreshed its smaller range of Rapid and Rapid Spaceback models.

Both cars get a redesigned front section comprising of new fog lamps and bi-xenon headlights on certain models that include chrome detail. The ‘Light Assistant’ function automatically activates the main beams according to daylight levels and can also automatically dip the high beams at night when oncoming traffic is detected.

A few subtle tweaks to the interior styling keep things looking fresh. Skoda is also introducing its optional Infotainment Online and CareConnect services. The former is integrated with the sat nav and can display useful information such as fuel prices along your route and parking availability. CareConnect adds a further layer with the ability to automatically alert the emergency services if it detects an impact where the airbags have been deployed.

Engine-wise the range gets a new 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol that will have both 95- and 110hp versions available. The engine promises to be more refined than other three-cylinder units and is said to have a fuel economy figure of up to 64.2mpg. A stop-start system and brake energy recovery technology helps contribute towards this, and these systems will feature on all models.

If you don’t fancy waiting for the new Rapid to arrive and fancy bagging a bit of a bargain, Skoda Ireland is currently offering deals on its outgoing models.

Cathal Kealey, PR Manager at Skoda Ireland, said:

In anticipation of the fantastic new Rapid and Rapid Spaceback we are currently offering up to €4,000 scrappage on the current Rapid range until the end of March to ensure the best value for our customers throughout 2017.

The new Skoda Rapid and Rapid Spaceback will make their public debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show on 9 March.
