Pregnant woman airlifted to hospital after daylight stab attack

A man has been arrested after the attack.

A PREGNANT WOMAN is in a critical condition in hospital after she was stabbed in a broad daylight attack outside Birmingham.

West Midlands Police say the stabbing happened in Sutton Coldfield town centre at about 3.15pm this afternoon before two passers-by intervened to stop the attack.

The pregnant victim, aged 40, was taken away from the scene by air ambulance at around 4pm.

A 41-year-old man was arrested following the stabbing after police were flagged down shortly afterwards.

Two men who stepped in to stop the attack received minor injuries and are receiving medical treatment.

Incident manager Julian Harper said that police are thankful for the two men’s actions:

What is clear at this early stage is that two members of the public bravely stepped into what was a dangerous and volatile situation, with complete disregard for their own safety and I commend them for their actions.

“Fortunately they suffered only minor injuries,” she said.

Harper adds that police are so far unaware of what circumstances, if any, led up the attack but are keen to tell members of the public that the man has been arrested.
