GOOD MORNING

The 9 at 9 Morning. It’s Thursday… But on a brighter note, just one more sleep until the start of the long weekend.

Every Morning, TheJournal.ie brings you the nine stories you need to know as you kick off your day — shortly before 9am.

1. #ELECTED After an epic recheck process independent Marian Harkin is heading back to Brussels. Pat ‘the Cope’ Gallagher conceded early this morning in Castlebar, after the failure of a Fianna Fáil vote management plan.

2. #CRASHES Two people have died after separate road crashes in the early hours of this morning. They happened in Fairview, Dublin 3, and on the N81 Dublin-Blessington Road near Brittas.

3. #RIP Tributes are being paid to Malcolm Glazer after the Manchester United owner’s death, aged 85. The businessman, who also owned the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the US, purchased the Old Trafford club in 2005.

4. #IT’S ON It now appears inevitable that tomorrow’s strike at Aer Lingus will take place after cabin crew union IMPACT said that a talks offer “came too late to prevent the action from going ahead”. The stoppage will affect all flights from Dublin, Cork and Shannon.

5. #MARCH: Students affected by the closure of a number of private colleges will stage a protest in Dublin later today. Five colleges have closed in the past month following investigations into the issuing of visas, leaving hundreds of students in the lurch.

6. #EBOLA: International medical aid teams are heading to Sierra Leone to try to deal with a deadly Ebola outbreak, the BBC reports.  Nearly 200 people have died in West Africa since the outbreak was first reported in March.

7. #PLANE: The agency leading the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane says the 850 square kilometre patch searched off the coast of Western Australia is not the aircraft’s final resting place, according to CNN. It’s the area where four acoustic ‘pings’ were heard back in April.

8. #THE NEXT EPISODE Apple has announced it will buy Beats Music and Beats Electronics in a much-hyped deal worth €2.21 billion. The deal calls for Beats co-founders Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine to join the California company

9. #THE WEEKEND OUTLOOK: How’s the weather for the Bank Holiday weekend shaping up, you ask? We can still look forward to temperatures of around 20 degrees on Saturday apparently, but Met Éireann’s revised down its positive forecast for Sunday a little.
