OVERLOOKING THE RIVER Slaney on the outskirts of Wexford town, Alma House is an eight-bed mansion on an exceptional site.
Measuring 10,355 sq ft, the property sits on 8.5 acres of beautiful grounds, on which there are four garages, separate mews accommodation, a range of outbuildings and a two-bed gate lodge at the entrance. For the lot, the price tag is a cool €2,500,000.
The main house is approached via a winding tree-lined avenue which sweeps around to a large parking area. From here, there’s plenty to explore, including a charming courtyard to the rear, immaculate lawns, a tennis court, an enclosed garden and a pond.
A recent project is the south-facing patio and water fountain feature, which add an even deeper sense of luxury and tranquility.
Alma House itself dates back to the 19th century and still has numerous original Georgian features including cornicing, ceiling roses and sash windows.
Stepping inside, the elegant hallway sets the tone for the rest of the accommodation. There is no shortage of living spaces at the house, with a drawing room, library, dining room, sunroom and an office. The dining room is the ideal space to entertain, with room to seat at least 10 here.
Many of these rooms have a feature fireplace or a stove, as well as large windows with views of the gardens and beyond.
The kitchen and everyday dining area is to the rear, featuring ample storage space, a breakfast bar, granite worktops and an Aga stove. Off the kitchen, there’s a utility room, boot room and cloakroom.
Moving through the bright and airy sunroom, there’s an impressive extension with a range of leisure facilities: a sizeable swimming pool, a gym, a jacuzzi and a sauna, plus a changing room. No excuses for skipping a workout, then.
Alma House has five large bedrooms with en suite bathrooms on the first floor, including the master bedroom which boasts a walk-in wardrobe and a jacuzzi bath.
There is a further three bedrooms with en suite bathrooms on the second floor, as well as four storage areas.
Despite feeling as if it’s in a world of its own, Alma House is a handy five-minute drive (or 35-minute walk) from Wexford town, while the journey to Dublin city will take about two hours via the M9 or M11.
From the picturesque grounds to the elegant interior, every corner of Alma House oozes luxury, making it a truly showstopping home for its lucky new owners.
