A CROWD OF 1,50o people took part in a rally today against the G8 Summit that is taking place at Lough Erne resort in County Fermanagh on Monday and Tuesday.
The rally against G8 policies was organised by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions. Hundreds of police officers flanked the route of the march.
According to the BBC, ICTU chairperson Pamela Dooley said: “There is an obligation on the trade union movement and civil society to stand together to demand a different and better way.”
She said the Irish Republic “prosperity for working people is over” while in Northern Ireland “almost one third of the population is classed as economically inactive”.
At the Lough Erne resort, where the leaders of some of the world’s largest economies will meet to discuss global affairs, there is a massive security perimeter surrounding the complex, which is just five miles outside Enniskillen.
Protests against the G8 also took place in London this week.
