Bird flu

1. A second bird flu outbreak in a commercial turkey flock has been confirmed in Co Meath. 

The first outbreak was confirmed just a day before, after the Department of Agriculture confirmed that an outbreak had occurred in a commercial turkey flock in Co Carlow.

Fianna Fáil

2. Fianna Fáil TDs whose names were included on a so-called “naughty list” of rebels have spoken about their upset at being named.

At a meeting of the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party last night, attendees heard from a number of individuals listed on what has been described as a “naughty list” by those in the party.

COP30

3. World leaders are gathering in a city on the outskirts of the Amazon rainforest from today as the world’s largest climate conference gets underway.

The UN summit, known as COP30, will see countries try to hammer out agreements on issues like reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and helping vulnerable countries deal with the impacts of climate change.

Typhoon 

4. A major typhoon has killed at least 140 people and left another 127 missing after unleashing devastating flooding across the central Philippines, official figures show, as the storm heads towards Vietnam.

Nuclear tests

5. Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered officials to submit proposals for a possible resumption of nuclear tests.

This is in response to President Donald Trump’s statements last week, that appeared to suggest the US will restart its own atomic tests.

6. Last month, two local authorities – Monaghan County Council and Cork City Council – each applied to  to Compulsary Purchase Order one property apiece.

RTÉ documentary unit

7. RTÉ’s television documentary unit is to cease production next year as part of changes at the broadcaster.

The news was delivered at a meeting yesterday to staff at the in-house TV documentary unit, according to RTÉ’s Arts and Media Correspondent Evelyn O’Rourke.

8. All-Ireland hurling Tipperary lead the way with seven All-Stars on the 2025 hurling selection, while beaten finalists Cork have four awarded.

FIFA Peace Prize

9. FIFA has created a new annual award called the Fifa Peace Prize to be awarded for the first time during next month’s 2026 World Cup draw in Washington.
