Man dead and two women hospitalised after fatal assault in Dublin

Shortly before 1.30am Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of an assault that occurred on Foster Terrace, Dublin 3.

A MAN IN his fifties has died and two women in their sixties have been hospitalised following a fatal assault in Ballybough, Co Dublin in the early hours on this morning.

Shortly before 1.30am Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of an assault that occurred on Foster Terrace, Dublin 3.

A male was discovered with serious injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. 

A female was removed to hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injures, and remains in hospital awaiting discharge. Another female was removed to hospital for treatment for serious but non-life threatening injures, and remains receiving medical treatment in hospital.

The scene on Foster Terrace and a nearby domestic residence have been preserved for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau. The Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.

A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Mountjoy Garda Station.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or has any information in relation to this incident, to come forward.

Investigating Gardaí are also appealing to anyone with camera footage, including motorists with dashcam footage from the area between 1am and 1.30am on 31 January 2026, to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Mountjoy Garda station on (01) 666 8600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

Investigations are ongoing.

Lord Mayor of Dublin Ray McAdam said this morning that the community of Ballybough are in shock following the fatal assault.

“As Lord Mayor of Dublin and as a local councillor, I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of a man in his 50s following an assault in Dublin,” he said in a statement.

“My thoughts are with those injured, and with the family and loved ones of the deceased at this extremely difficult time.”
