Man (40s) due in court over Dublin city centre assault that left victim critically injured

The assault occurred shortly after midnight.

A MAN HAS been charged and is due in court in connection with a serious assault in Dublin city centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victim, a man in his 20s, remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The assault occurred on Hawkins Street at approximately 12.20am on Sunday.

The injured man was taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment, where he remains in a critical condition.

Following the assault, gardaí arrested a man in his 40s. He has since been charged, and will appear in court at 10.30am this morning.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone who was in the Hawkins Street area between 12am and 12.30am on Sunday and may have camera footage is asked to make it available to gardaí.

“Investigations are ongoing,” a garda spokesperson added.
