Baftas: Another nod for Jessie Buckley as Paul Mescal gets in on the act too

British actors Amy Lou Wood and David Jonsson announced the nominees on a livestream at noon today.

LAST UPDATE | 15 mins ago

JESSIE BUCKLEY HAS been nominated for the award of Leading Actress at the British Academy Film Awards (Baftas), with Paul Mescal receiving the nod for Supporting Actor.

Derry author Maggie O’Farrell’s Hamnet screenplay, written alongside the film’s director Chloe Zhao, picked up a nomination for Adapted Screenplay.

Hamnet was also nominated for Costume Design, Director, Best Film, Production Design, Original Score, Makeup and Hair, and Outstanding British Film. Emily Watson was nominated for Supporting Actress for her role in the film.

The film received 11 nominations in total across the 25 categories.

British actors Amy Lou Wood and David Jonsson announced the nominees on a livestream at noon today.

The unveiling of the Bafta nominations follows the recent announcement of Oscar nominations that saw Golden Globe winner Buckley pick up a nomination for her role in Hamnet, while her co-star Paul Mescal missed out.

Films Hamnet, Sinners, and One Battle After Another have led nominations at the awards this year.

Hamnet has a home advantage here as it could win either overall Best Film or Outstanding British Film (its stars and author may be Irish, but it was filmed in England and primarily produced by English studios).

The Baftas will be held on Sunday, 22 February, with its ceremony taking place at the Royal Festival Hall in London’s Southbank Centre.
