Storm Chandra: Entire country under Status Yellow wind warning tomorrow

Three counties in Northern Ireland will be under a Status Orange wind warning tomorrow.

LAST UPDATE | 26 Jan

THERE IS A weather warning in place in for the entire island tomorrow with Storm Chandra now confirmed as the third named storm of the year.

Met Éireann has announced a status yellow rain warning for counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Louth, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow, starting from midnight tonight and lasting until 11pm tomorrow.

A status yellow wind warning is also in place across all of Ireland from 3am until 11pm tomorrow night.

A status yellow wind and rain warning is also in place across the six counties of Northern Ireland tomorrow, with counties Antrim, Down and Derry also coming under a status orange wind warning. The orange warnings will be in place from 5am until 9pm.

Meanwhile, counties Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Derry and Tyrone are currently under a status yellow rain warning until midnight.

The United Kingdom’s Met Office has named Storm Chandra and says it will bring very strong winds, leading to the potential for damage and disruption tomorrow.

Met Éireann has said that tomorrow will begin wet and windy, with widespread rain, heavy at times.

“Bands of rain associated with Storm Chandra will be heavy and persistent,” the forecaster says.

The rain will be persistent in the south and east and, combined with already saturated ground, this will lead to some localised flooding, hence the issuing of weather warnings for the three counties named.

Other possible impacts are river flooding and difficult driving conditions.
