IF I HAD the money I’d buy…
A head turning, traffic stopping, stunner of a car with uber cool scissor doors. A car with futuristic looks, supercar performance and hypercar technology. Oh, and one with low running costs too.
Yes, I want the moon on a stick so that’s why I’d buy a BMW i8 plug-in hybrid.
Why a BMW i8?
Did you see the doors? That’s why! Those gorgeous but very impractical scissor doors are sensational and with them open the BMW i8 looks like an elegant bird of prey.
It is stunning to look at from all angles and it is lightning quick too with a 0 to 100km/h time of just 4.4 seconds and top speed of 250km/h. But, you are of course buying the i8 because of how environmentally friendly it is and because of its low running costs, right? The BMW i8 has a combined fuel economy figure of 2.1 litres/100km and falls into tax band A1, which means it is just €170 to tax a year. It’s already saving you money.
What’s special about this particular one?
This particular example shimmers in its Ionic Silver metallic paint with BMW i Blue accent and sits on top of gorgeous 20-inch BMW i W-spoke alloy wheels.
The interior has seats covered in Carum Grey BMW i Spheric leather with a Sitka cloth accent and there is a black leather sports steering wheel with Satin Silver contrasting trim.
It comes very well equipped and specced and features sat-nav, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive LED headlights, Driving Assistant with surround view, a Head-Up Display and a Harman Kardon loudspeaker system.
What does it look like in action?
Check out the mechanical underpinnings of the BMW i8 in this video and watch it effortlessly glide along the road at super speed.
Who else drives one?
The most famous BMW i8 owner is probably Conor McGregor or Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol.
It costs €99,950. What else could you get for the money?
Got your heart set on a premium hybrid but need something a tad more practical? For just slightly less money, you could have this Audi Q7 e-tron.
… or if it’s a super slinky two-door performance car you are after, for €89,995 you can have this Porsche Cayman.
