POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland have carried out a number of searches across the region in a crackdown on illegal gambling.
The PSNI’s Economic Crime Unit arrested two men aged 39 and 69 during searches of eight premises.
Both men are being held at Lurgan police station.
This operation also had a focus on stamping out money laundering.
A number of machines were seized during the operation, as well as related technical equipment, documentation, cash and criminal property.
Speaking about today’s raids, Detective Chief Inspector Ian Wilson said: “We believe there is a link between illegal gambling and money laundering which feeds other forms of crime in our community.
This illegal gambling is often used by criminals as a means of laundering money obtained from organised criminal activity and plays an important role in other forms of acquisitive and organised crime.
He went on to say that activities combating this type of operation would continue into the future and anyone with any information about money laundering or illegal gambling is encouraged to contact the police.
