Cian O'Brien died unexpectedly while on a trip to France. GoFundMe

Close to €50,000 raised for family of young Cork man who died while skiing in France

Twenty-year-old Cian was local to Gleann na Rí in Tower, near Blarney.

OVER €45,000 HAS been raised for the family of Cian O’Brien, a young Cork man who died while on a ski trip in the French Alps at the weekend.

Twenty-year-old Cian was local to Gleann na Rí in Tower, near Blarney. It is understood he suffered a serious medical incident while he was on the trip with friends and passed away.

A GoFundMe organised with permission from the family aims to cover the costs of repatriating Cian’s remains and funeral costs.

Cian is survived by his parents Paul and Sabrina and his sister Lauren.

Local councillor Damian Boylan told The Journal yesterday that Cian’s death is “desperately tragic” and a “shock to the system” for the community.

He extended his condolences to Cian’s family and said he “can’t imagine what the family is going through”.

“There’s young people in Tower and Blarney who have lost a friend,” Boylan said.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it is aware of the incident and is providing consular assistance.
