TWO PEOPLE HAVE been charged following rioting near the Citywest complex in west Dublin earlier this week.

An Garda Síochána arrested a male juvenile in his teens and a man in his 40s in connection with the unrest in Saggart on 21 and 22 October.

The two men were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Garda stations in the Dublin region. They have since appeared in court and been charged.

They are to appear at the Criminal Courts of Justice this afternoon.

Two nights of rioting broke out after a man appeared in court on Tuesday charged with the alleged sexual assault of a young girl near the Citywest complex.

The former Citywest Hotel was purchased by the state for use as an Ipas centre earlier this year. There are around 1,200 Ukrainians in the centre currently, and approximately 460 international protection applicants.

Investigators from the Dublin Metropolitan Region West, supported by the Dublin Crime Response Team, have also carried out further searches as part of this investigation.

Garda are reviewing CCTV and body worn camera footage to identify persons involved as well as carrying out forensic examinations at a number of locations.

An Garda Síochána appeals to any person with any information on persons involved in this serious public disorder to contact the investigation team at Clondalkin Garda Station at 01 6667600 or any member of An Garda Síochána at any Garda Station.

Members of the public can provide information confidentially to An Garda Síochána by contacting the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
