THE COAST GUARD has been involved in a rescue effort on an individual who is believed to have had a stroke while swimming.

The call went out to emergency services shortly before midday today that someone was struggling on White Rock beach in Dún Laoghaire.

Shortly after the individual was attended to by the National Ambulance Service on the beach while An Garda Síochána and the Dún Laoghaire Coast Guard prepared the scene for a helicopter landing.

While this was underway, Howth Coast Guard prepared the landing zone in Beaumont Hospital.

This preparation from the various agencies allowed the casualty to be airlifted to hospital in just four minutes.

4 mins to be at the hospital. Perfect co-ordination between the emergency services. We have extremely competent emergency services in this country. Well done to all involved.

Despite our rescue and policing services being cut to the bone, it’s brings comfort knowing that they’re still capable of such excellence.

Jaysus, you can’t have a stroke in front of the laptop without being tracked, and when you try to have a sly one outdoors they come and interrupt you…..

Good thing the tide was out. Not much beach there when it’s in – could have made for a longer rescue. Hope the man makes a good recovery.
