Weather warnings lifted this morning, but it's still freezing out across the country

A temperature low of -5.3 degrees was recorded in Carlow last night.

THE WEATHER WARNINGS may have lifted, but the layers are staying on for many this morning as the cold spell continues.

A Status Yellow low temprature and ice warning was issued for ten counties across Leinster and Munster yesterday, and was in effect until 8am this morning.

Temperatures dropped as low as -4 degrees in many parts of the country last night, including regions of Connacht, Leinster and Ulster.

A numbing -5.3C was recorded at a weather station in Carlow.

Today has started cold, dry, and bright, with frost and icy conditions to gradually give way as cloud spreads in from the west.

Forsty conditions are still affecting a number of roads though, and Met Éireann have warned drivers to take extra caution.

Rain is expected to develop over the western half of the country in the afternoon and reach the east after dark.

Temperatures will reach highs of between three to eight degrees.

Tonight, rain will continue initially, with breezy conditions, before easing to scattered showers.

Mist and fog will develop overnight, with temperature lows of one to five degrees and a touch of frost possible, especially in the midlands.

Saturday will start dry with fog clearing to sunny spells and scattered showers.

Cloud will build through the day, bringing patchy rain and drizzle across western and southwestern areas.

It will feel milder though, with temperature highs of up to 11 degrees and light to moderate southwesterly winds.
