'Wonderful Life' singer-songwriter Black has died in Cork

The artist, whose real name was Colin Vearncombe, had been in a coma for two weeks after a car crash. He was 53.

THE POPULAR 1980S singer-songwriter Black has died in Cork aged 53.

The English artist, real name Colin Vearncombe, had been in a medically-induced coma for the past two weeks.

He was involved in a serious car accident near his Cork home in Schull on 12 January.

Black enjoyed some success in the mid-1980s selling two million records.

He is probably best known for the mournful ‘Wonderful Life’ which was released in 1985.

His representatives had said on his official Facebook page that “the news is not encouraging” following a scan last Friday.

We acknowledge the grief among all those who love him and are deeply grateful for the thousands of messages of love and support however there will be no more news updates while his family remain at his bedside.
