Conor O’Carroll wins Business Analyst of the Year at 2025 Business Journalist Awards

CONOR O’CARROLL has been named Business Analyst of the Year at the UCD Smurfit School Business Journalist Awards.

They were awarded for their work on mapping data centres around the country and explaining their environmental impact.

Earlier this year, O’Carroll was named Young Journalist of the Year at the 2025 Irish Journalism Awards, in recognition of their work with The Journal Investigates.

Their portfolio includes investigations into the role of Irish companies in US deportations, and planning objections to certain veterinary-related developments.

The Smurfit School awards, now in its 18th year and sponsored by Bank of Ireland, recognises excellence across a range of business-journalism categories.
The Journal received several other nominations.

Valerie Flynn and The Explainer were nominated for Business Podcast/Audio Story of the Year category for their probe titled What is Shein and what is it doing to the clothing industry?

Aoife Moore and Sinead O’Carroll were nominated for Business Feature of the Year for their reporting on the unmasking of the operator of Tattle Life.
