Two young men killed in crash between lorry and car in Co Donegal

The teens were travelling in a car when the collision occurred at around 11.15pm yesterday.

TWO YOUNG MEN have died and another remains seriously injured following an overnight crash between a lorry and a car in Co Donegal.

The collision, which involved a lorry and a car, occurred at around 11.15pm yesterday on the R236 near St. Johnston, Co Donegal.

A male passenger of the car aged in his late teens was pronounced dead at the scene. His remains were conveyed to the morgue at Letterkenny University Hospital.

A second male passenger aged in his late teens was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Post-mortem examinations will take place in due course and the Coroner has been notified, a garda spokesperson said.

The male driver of the car, also in his late teens, was also taken to Altnagelvin Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

He was later transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast.

No other injuries were reported at the time.

The R236 road is currently closed for technical examination by gardaí, with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
