Motorcyclist killed in crash with lorry in Co Sligo

The driver of the lorry was brought to Sligo University Hospital as a precaution.

A MOTORCYCLIST HAS died following a collision with a lorry in Co Sligo this morning.

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the collision at Rusheen, Riverstown, around 9:20am today. 

The motorcyclist, a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the lorry was brought to Sligo University Hospital as a precaution. 

The deceased man’s body has been brought to the hospital’s mortuary and a post mortem examination will take place in due course, gardaí said. The coroner has been notified.

The road remains closed while Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conduct a technical examination of the scene. 

The L1303 is closed at Rusheen and diversions are in place in Riverstown and on the R284 (Ballygawley to Ballyfarnon Road).

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward and contact Ballymote Garda Station on 071 9189500, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

Today’s incident marks the latest in a string of road deaths, with seven people losing their lives on Ireland’s roads at the weekend.
