What can I get in Ireland for... under €250,000?

From seaside living in Co Donegal to a home by the River Barrow in Kildare.

STAYING WITHIN BUDGET when house-hunting can take a lot of digging, and many buyers end up spending more than planned – whether on the house itself, the extra rent while they wait, or the renovations afterward.

That’s why, each week, we put together an edit of homes within a certain price range to save you some precious time. From a holiday home in the north west to a new build in the midlands, here are four homes to check out if €250,000 is your absolute max.

Dunfanaghy, Co Donegal – €235,000

The new homes at Crocknageeha are marketed as holiday homes, but no doubt some buyers will choose them as full-time residences too. This detached three bedroom home is spread over 1,506 sq ft and makes the most of the natural light that floods in. Photovoltaic panels generate renewable, clean energy while the large windows and sun room complement the generous amount of space within.

Minutes away on foot is the coastal village of Dunfanaghy, which is home to a number of amenities like a surf school, golf links and plenty of beaches.

Shannon, Co Clare – €235,000

A semi-detached home with three bedrooms, 56 Radharc na Coille was recently updated with a maintenance-free garden along a new front door and a freshly painted interior. Further to the three bedrooms, two lounges and a utility room make this an ideal starter home for a young family.

And, although it sits on a quiet cul de sac, Shannon Airport is less than a 15 minute drive away, and you’re a short stroll from Shannon village’s many amenities.

A ten minute stroll will have you in the village of Monasterevin, known as the Venice of Ireland for its network of waterways. The village is home to primary and secondary schools, plenty of shops and access to banks of the Barrow for scenic walks.

Portlaoise, Co Laois – €245,000

A detached family home spread over 1,382 sq ft is a rare find at this price point. With three bedrooms and three bathrooms, The Katherine even enjoys its own private driveway and back garden. And, although the exterior exudes somewhat of a period charm, modern fittings and an A energy rating are all guaranteed within.

Drive just over an hour and you’ll be in the heart of Dublin city, and you’re five minutes drive from Portlaoise train station.
