Do you think workers should need a doctor's note from the first day of sick leave?

Germany has tightened its sick leave rules, but Irish employers say introducing similar rules here would go too far.

GERMANY HAS INTRODUCED sweeping new sick leave rules, meaning workers must now provide a doctor’s note from the very first day they’re off sick.

The Journal reporter Sophie Finn wrote this morning that Irish business groups have warned that a similar system wouldn’t work here, while the government says it has no plans to change Ireland’s sick leave rules.

Current legislation here generally allows employees to take up to two days off without a medical certificate.

On that (sick) note, we wanted to ask: Do you think workers should need a doctor’s note from the first day of sick leave?

Poll Results:

No, the current system is about right (1766)
Only for the second consecutive day (385)
Yes, from day one (340)
 I'm not sure (50)
