ALMOST A CENTURY after the convertible as we know it first appeared, the drop-top is still the ultimate aspirational motor.
We’ve rounded up the best on offer, from the top-end dream car to the distinctly affordable.
Porsche Boxster Spyder 2016, €134,100
First out of the gate, this brand new 3.8-litre two-seater in jet black with matching 20-inch alloys. It boasts a six-speed manual transmission, leather seats with contrast red belts, and that engine pumping out 375hp with a top speed of 290km/h.
1967 Mercedes 250, €69,950
This beautiful vintage Merc is a left-hand-drive American import (as if it needed to be just a little more special). The classic 1960s styling is topped off by alloy wheels, and those immaculate chrome fenders.
2016 Audi A3, €43,555
This brand-new convertible has Audi’s 1.6TDi under the hood, which at 110hp packs a serious punch for a car this compact. It’s also got all the other trim you’d expect from the company: onboard computer, cruise control, auto handbrake and a full leather interior.
2004 Porsche 911 Carrera, €25,000
With 117,000km on the clock, this beautiful motor offers low mileage for a 2004 model, and comes with a full service history. It comes with a Porsche hard top in that same metallic blue. Automatic transmission, climate control and Parktronic are all inside.
2008 BMW Z4, €11,950
With metallic blue paintwork and a contrasting cream leather interior, this BMW certainly makes an impact – and that’s before you get to the 2.0i Sport under the bonnet. Two owners from new, with a six-speed manual transmission and just over 60,000km on the clock.
