Donegal woman gets her birthday wish as she turns 100 - a visit from Daniel O'Donnell

Daniel O’Donnell sent Kitty Roarty a video message for her celebrations last year and promised he would call in person and help her celebrate her centenary birthday.

A CO DONEGAL woman who turns 100 today received the birthday wish of a lifetime – a visit from Daniel O’Donnell.

Kitty Roarty got the best present ever yesterday when the singer surprised her at her home in The Wood, Glenties.

When Kitty turned 99 last year, Daniel sent her a video message for her celebrations.

The Kincasslagh man then promised Kitty that he would call in person and help her celebrate her centenary birthday.

And true to his word, Daniel took time out of his cherished Christmas family time to visit Kitty.

A shocked Kitty welcomed the star and said “Daniel, I can’t believe you’re here.”

The pair chatted, had photos taken and even sang a couple of songs together.

Kitty, who is originally from Bruckless, is a huge fan of the singer and loves watching him on his TG4 series Opry Le Daniel.

Kitty lived in Birmingham for a number of years with her late husband Michael before returning and settling in Glenties.

Today promises to be a very special and busy Christmas Eve for Kitty and her family.

With five children, 21 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, there promises to be lots of birthday cake and lots of fun – even before Santa arrives.
