WHEN ARCHITECT PAUL Brazil turned his hand to a 4.5 acre site overlooking The Curragh in 2010, he created something special: a brand new home that felt distinctly timeless.
Seven years on, the mansion still retains all of its charm. Brazil’s design mixed old world features and contemporary innovation, resulting in a property that looks as vibrant now as it no doubt did on day one.
Inside, the four-bedroom house features Belgian smoked oak flooring on the ground level, with an entrance area leading to a library and dining room on the right, a drawing room and terrace at the rear, and a utility room and kitchen on the left.
The kitchen, with its eleven-foot high ceiling, is a haven of natural light and feels like the natural heart of the home thanks to a large island and dining area.
Along with bespoke Seabury units, the kitchen includes a three-oven electric range Aga, Miele appliances and Silestone worktops.
Upstairs, the large landing is a suntrap thanks to the atrium sitting above, making a bright entryway for the master suite and three double bedrooms.
The master bedroom has a balcony offering a lookout over the Curragh Plains, plus a walk-in shelved dressing room and a large en-suite bathroom tiled in Carrara marble. All other bedrooms have their own shower rooms en suite.
Positioned behind a high timber fence with beech hedging, Foxwood is a true rural retreat. A sweeping avenue leads up to the front of the house, with landscaped gardens accentuating the property’s exterior design.
There’s also a separate detached studio covering 1,400 sq ft, which could double as a home office, gym or additional accommodation.
Despite its relatively rural location, Foxwood is just a 45-minute drive from central Dublin. Racing enthusiasts will love the easy access to one of Ireland’s most important racecourses, while all other major amenities can be found in nearby Newbridge and Kilcullen.
Foxwood at The Curragh, Co Kildare is on sale now for €1,500,000 from Jordan Auctioneers and Savills Country Homes, via Daft.ie.
