Poll: Will naming and shaming really be an effective deterrent against drink drivers?

Will Shane Ross’s new legislation really make a difference?

FROM DECEMBER, MINISTER for Transport Shane Ross is planning to introduce naming and shaming for drink drivers and other road offenders as part of his amended Road Traffic Bill.

This morning, TheJournal.ie takes a look at how the practice works in other countries, and what kind of shape such a regime might take in Ireland.

The AA, meanwhile, suggests that the impact of such legislation will be ‘minimal’, and that the only effective way to combat drink-driving is to commit more funding to the gardaí.

But, do you agree?

We’re asking: Will naming and shaming really be an effective deterrent against drink drivers?
