'Knock-on delays' at Dublin Airport after evacuation

The terminal reopened at 1:30pm, with flights expected to resume at around 2pm.

LAST UPDATE | 20 Sep 2025

THERE ARE “KNOCK-ON delays” at Dublin Airport following a 90-minute evacuation this afternoon, the airport operator has said.

Earlier today, passengers and staff at Terminal 2 of the airport were evacuated due to a suspicious item of luggage. The Army’s EOD team responded to the item in a coordinated effort with gardaí and airport police, and the item was subsequently declared safe.

The terminal reopened at 1:30pm, with flights expected to resume at around 2pm.

However, there remain delays at the airport, particularly for those who have flown into Dublin, continuing into the late evening.

Several passengers told The Journal that they have been stranded on aircraft that arrived into the airport around the time of the initial security alert.

One passenger said, “Any flights that have landed since are stuck sitting on the runways and people are not allowed disembark.

“The pilot can’t park as all bays are full. No information is being given. We are just being told to be patient. People are missing connections and babies are crying.”

She said she was sitting on a plane for close to three hours after it had landed before passengers were able to disembark.

Another person said they are still stuck on a plane that arrived into the airport over two hours ago.

In Amsterdam, another passenger waiting on an Aer Lingus flight to Dublin Airport said his flight is now three hours delayed.

Numerous people have noted that their airlines have not issued any updated information on the situation.
