THE PUBLIC HAS been warned to avoid the cliff path at Dunmore East in the county due to landslide in the area.
The council tweeted that the Dunmore East to Ballymacaw cliff path at Portally Cove is closed until further notice as a result of a landslip. The public has been advised not to pass through barriers in the area.
In a statement, a council spokesperson said:
“Waterford City and County Council was notified of the landslide this morning and immediately closed access to the walkway.
“The Council will be undertaking an investigation as to the cause of the landslide. In the meantime, the public is strongly advised to avoid the cliff walk at Portally in Dunmore East.

Dunmore East has seen significant rainfall in recent days, along with the rest of Co Waterford. A Status Orange rain warning was in place for the country, along with Kilkenny and Wexford.
Yesterday, Waterford City and other areas were hit by severe flooding, with the fire service and ground crews being deployed. Roads were closed, and one pregnant woman had to be rescued from her home after her estate was hit by rapidly rising waters.
The flooding has since eased, with Waterford County Council releasing a statement today saying that flood waters had receded in the city and county, and that ground crews were currently engaged in inspections and clean-up operations.
The majority of routes in the county have now reopened, with the exception of L4076-41 Fairybush to Woodstown, which remains closed.
“There remains a considerable amount of debris, grit and spot flooding on some local roads. Waterford City and County Council is advising motorists to reduce speed and exercise caution,” the statement reads.
“Waterford City and County Council engineers are currently assessing damage to the road, pavement and bridge infrastructure and drainage systems.
