Egypt's Mubarak and sons to stand trial in August

The former president of Egypt is to stand trial alongside his two sons to face charges of corruption and intentionally murdering protesters – if found guilty of “pre-meditated killing” Mubarak could face death.

EGYPT’S FORMER PRESIDENT Hosni Mubarak and his two sons are to stand trial in August, to face charges of corruption and intentionally killing protesters during February’s uprising.

The Middle East News Agency quoted a court official on Wednesday as saying Mubarak will be tried on charges of corruption and intentionally killing protesters during the 18-day uprising that ousted him on 11 February.

Ahram Online reports that Hosni, Alaa and Gamal Mubarak will face charges including the murder of demonstrators, abuse of authority for personal gain and embezzlement of the state budget at the Cairo Criminal Court on 3 August.

Mubarak could face the death penalty if found guilty of “pre-meditated killing”, Reuters reports.
