EACH WEEK, WE ask an Irish person with a passion for interiors to share one photo of their favourite spot in their home.

Emily Woodcock and her husband moved from Dublin city to ‘Molly’s Cottage’ in Jenkinstown, Co Louth three years ago.

“I have always been a lover of all things vintage – clothes, jewellery, furniture and furnishings,” says Emily. “So since we moved to Molly’s Cottage, I have been collecting and sourcing vintage pieces that work well in our home.”

I just love the idea of giving old pieces a new lease of life in a loving home. 

This week, mum-of-three Emily (@mollys_vintagevibes) chatted us through her favourite space in her home: her daughter Elsie’s bedroom.

What do you love about this part of your home?

I discovered this wallpaper on Pinterest a few years ago and instantly fell in love with it. I knew it would work perfectly in our home with some vintage pieces I have collected over the years. I saved the image and regularly went back to swoon over it. When it came to doing up my daughter’s room, I decided to make the splurge.

I love the vintage style mural with its large blossoms printed to look like fabric and giving the illusion of texture. It makes the perfect romantic backdrop for a little girl’s room. I’m a firm believer that you should have one investment piece in each room. This was mine for Elsie’s bedroom.

What was your inspiration when you were putting the space together?

As a family of five, one of the most important elements in our home is functional furniture that not only looks pretty but has plenty of storage. Our home is not particularly big but we try to make sure that it’s multi-functional.

That’s why I have used a tallboy in Elsie’s room instead of bedside locker as now it doubles up as a bedside cabinet/clothes storage unit. 

Talk us through some of the objects in the photo.

The tallboy was sourced by Teak & Teal Interior and painted in fusion mineral paint by Love 2 Furnish. I found the butterfly and bee knobs on eBay and thought they would work perfectly for updating this piece and giving it a younger feel for a child’s room.

The bedside lights and main shade are from a second hand store. The floral vintage bedspread is a old curtain which I had up on our hall.

The print is by Emily Winfield Martin, and the cushions are from Carolyn Donnelly home. The rug is a Etsy find. It gets regularly moved around to other rooms but this is my favorite spot for it.

How well does this photo reflect the rest of your home?

I think the photo reflects the rest of our house quite well. Each room is filled with colour and vintage finds. My style has definitely evolved since moving into our new home. I have discovered that I love the challenge of decorating on a budget.

I love bold pops of colour too and generally yellow or mustard appears somewhere in each room. 

Be honest: how much tidying did you do before taking this photo?

I’ll be honest, I didn’t have to do much cleaning for this photo, although I remade the bed as my daughter’s bed making skills are not on point! Apart from that, I just moved a few books and a eye mask from the tallboy and took the photo. Behind and under the bed is a whole other story. A whole Sylvanian village is set out on the other side of this room and playing and imagination is in full swing!
