Enda Kenny Facebook via Facebook

Enda asked for Facebook questions on trade and jobs, but people aren't sticking to the script...

The Taoiseach is taking part in a Facebook Q&A at the social media company’s California HQ later. He’s asking for your questions….

THE TAOISEACH IS in the US on business this week — specifically, a three day trade mission to the West Coast.

As part of the visit, which also includes the usual round of meetings with potential investors and Irish American community leaders, he’ll be taking part in a Facebook Q&A later today at the social media company’s Menlo Park headquarters.

Enda Kenny asked for social media users to get in touch with their questions for the session, which gets under way at 11.30pm Irish time.

In a post on his official Facebook Page last night, he asked for relevant queries on the areas of trade, investment and job creation.

While a few Facebook users have been sticking to the brief, there are also a few questions we don’t expect the Taoiseach to be tackling later…

Namely…

  • Are you afraid of a revolution starting due to your shenanigans?
  • Can you reveal how they get figs into fig rolls?

And

  • What really landed in Area 51?

Here’s a selection of some of the on-brief questions that are more likely to get an answer:

  • Are there strategies in place to link colleges directly with industry so that students have a direct link to jobs when leaving college?
  • Was it a good idea to put Trade into the Department of Foreign Affairs? Has it worked or should it be returned to the Department of Jobs?
  • How attractive will Ireland be if US Government penalises US companies that are located outside US jurisdiction?

Twelve hours after the post went up, the most popular question, with 21 ‘likes’ was as follows:

  • How has austerity affected you ?

You’ll find full details of the Q&A, and you can post a question yourself, on Enda Kenny’s Facebook page.

Whatever about LeBeouf at least Baldwin is a good actor. Hunt for red October and glengarry glen Ross spring to mind.

True…LaBeouf is an arrogant tool and an absolute crap actor. Would be missed like a case of the runs.

He’ll be back. I like Alec Baldwin as an actor but suspect he’s like any other celebrity who finds the spotlight addictive.

Interesting article, I don’t get the James Franco references though.

One of Lisa’s articles has finally made it more than a few comments and views without massive criticism.

    Bravo Lisa ;’)

It didn’t, actually. There was a critical comment almost immediately, which I and another commenter rebutted, but when I went into the article to reply again the comment had been removed. Almost instantly.

I have to say, I thought that was very strange, especially as my complimentary comment was removed as well.

Hi Jane, happy to oblige – any replies to a comment which is removed are deleted along with the original. So if your comment was in response to something which broke the comments policy, that’s why it’s no longer there.

I understand why my reply was removed Jennifer, I just don’t understand why the original comment was removed. Yes, it was critical of the article, but surely criticism is free speech?

Ah, I see! If a comment makes personal remarks about the author of a story then it’s taken down. Comments criticising the content or argument of an article are obviously welcomed, but there’s a distinction between that and ad-hominem insults. “Play the ball, not the player” and all that.
