Last-minute Dublin gig for Foo Fighters announced for tomorrow night

Dave Grohl and co have been doing the rounds in Ireland and the UK in recent days.

US ROCK BAND The Foo Fighters are in town to play a last-minute gig in Dublin tomorrow night.

Promoter MCD announced this morning that tickets will go on sale from midday today at the 3Olympia Theatre Box Office at Dame Street for a live show at The Academy.

Crowds formed from this morning to get their tickets, with many having been allocated already for those who got there early.

The Journal’s Daragh Brophy has been among the crowds this morning, and told us that it looks like the 12 o’clock notice was more to draw people in:

I’m told the first fans started arriving at the box office shortly after the surprise gig was announced via Instagram and Facebook this morning. People were asked for ID and to show a credit card and then shown into the theatre, where several hundred people are now waiting, watching a closed curtain.

Fans have also been posting photos from inside the Olympia queue.

Alas, it does not look like Dave Grohl is going to be making an appearance behind that curtain just yet.

It follows rumours online that Grohl and his bandmates were knocking about other parts of the country, following supposed sightings of their van in Dingle.

The band – who have over 50 million album sales globally – have been doing the rounds in this part of the world, having played Graham Norton’s BBC TV show on Friday.

However, the terms of a sale are restrictive enough, with a two-ticket limit per person on a “strictly first come, first served basis” according to MCD.

More pointedly, customers are asked to be “courteous of neighbouring businesses and the community” in the Dame Street area.

The tickets are priced at €99 and physical credit cards and debit cards are the only option for purchasing. That means cash, contactless and digital cards will all be refused, as per MCD’s post on Instagram.

Anyone buying a ticket is asked to notify staff at the time of purchase if you require accessible tickets.
