IF YOU’RE A FAN of open-plan living, have young kids or live with someone who has mobility issues, a bungalow could fit the bill.
Luckily, Ireland is full of one-level homes, many of them with their own green sites and gardens too. This week, we’ve handpicked four different one-storey residences on the market around Ireland, to give you a better sense of what’s out there.
Here’s what’s on offer right now, from Dublin seaside towns to the wilds of Kerry.
Tucked away behind electric gates a short stroll from Killiney Hill and Dalkey village, Elba is a breath-taking one-level property with four bedrooms and 2,207 sq ft of floor space. Inside, the property features solid oak wood flooring and underfloor heating, plus impeccable decorative style throughout.
One particularly enticing design element is the natural light that flows through each room, thanks to its numerous glass walls and large skylights. There’s also an open plan design connecting the living, cooking and dining areas, and further adding to the airy, modern feel of the property.
Built in 2005, 1 Cahir Lodge is one of three homes within a private gated development on Kenmare’s Roughty River. Nature-lovers will find plenty to love in this three-bedroom property, surrounded by mature trees, manicured gardens and of course, the river’s rushing waters.
Inside, there’s an open plan living/dining area with superb vaulted high ceilings, tiled flooring, patio access and views toward the river. All three bedrooms include en-suite WCs, and the master suite has its own shower and dressing area too. A converted attic area features plenty of storage space, with laminated flooring and Velux windows.
This recently extended five-bedroom dormer bungalow is situated on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Killucan, 15 minutes drive from Mullingar. The house is set on a lush 0.3 acre site, mostly lawned, with a sunny decking area to the rear of the property and a detached garage to the side.
Inside briefly comprises a spacious sitting room, a newly-built kitchen, three double bedrooms and a family bathroom. On the dormer level are two more double bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room.
It’s on the market for €245,000.
Carrig Lodge has all the picture-perfect charm of a country cottage, but is in fact a spacious six-bedroom family home with 2,771 sq ft of floor space. Set on 0.75 acres of landscaped gardens, the house also includes a spacious garage and a separate annex area to the rear.
Inside, the two living rooms, dining room and family kitchen are all exceptionally bright and airy with garden views. There are two bedrooms at the ground floor level and a further four on the dormer level. Four of the six bedrooms have their own en-suite bathrooms.
