Poll: Would you pass the Garda fitness test?

How many sit-ups could you do?

FITNESS REQUIREMENTS ARE being relaxed for new Gardaí.

According to this morning’s Irish Times, new recruits will no longer have to complete any sit-ups or push-ups to gain admission to the Garda College in Templemore. The move is being made partly due to concerns about a low number of people passing the test.

The current – soon to be scrapped – test requires participants to complete a minimum number of sit-ups within the space of a minute and minimum number of press-ups with no time limit. The requirements are broken down by gender and age

Taking the middle age group, for people in their thirties, for the sake of simplicity, could you complete: 31 sit-ups and 19 press-ups (for a male) or (for females) 21 sit-ups and 14 press-ups?

Poll Results:

Yes, no problem! (3947)
No, but I have other fine qualities. (1987)
Probably not? (1624)
Yes? (1511)
