GOGGLEBOX IRELAND IS coming back for another season and looking for a new set of stars to join the show.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the show, which gives a voice to households across the country as they react to the week’s television highlights.
Producers are seeking close-knit friend groups in their 20s, to add ”fresh young voices” to the mix, Virgin Media said in a statement.
The show is also on the hunt for a new family, especially with younger members over the age of 12.
“Gogglebox Ireland prides itself on reflecting all the different people, perspectives and communities that make up Ireland as we know it,” the broadcaster noted.
Since its inception in 2016, the show has continued to be popular, garnering over 200,000 viewers per weekly episode, according to the Irish Film and Television Network.
It follows the success of the British version of the show, which continues to top TV rankings in the UK.
Series producer David Noble believes humour makes the Irish format stand out.
“That’s the biggest thing that we’re known for as an export,” Noble said, speaking to The Journal.
“And you know, it’s a show also about strong opinions, and lacking strong opinions is never an accusation that’s been levelled at the Irish. So it’s something that we feel we get in abundance from cast, but also from people who apply to be on the show.”
Alongside the main series, the show also airs celebrity specials,which have included guests such as American actress Rosie O’Donnell and politician Michael Healy-Rae.
The families themselves have become firm favourites with the viewers and enjoyed some viral moments, such as Cavan twins Neal and Fergal Tully.
In casting the show, Noble says that the team looks for people all around the country and from a variety of backgrounds, but that authenticity is a key factor.
”If you were putting on a performance, an Irish audience will see right through that,” he said.
Noble admitted that the best cast members are often the ones that do not want to be on the show initially.
“There’ll always be someone that a viewer can connect with in a way that they feel I see myself in that person, or I’d love to go for a coffee or a pint with that person,” he said.
