Green Line Luas services remain suspended this morning as repair works continue

Red Line services are operating as normal.

GREEN LINE LUAS services remain suspended this morning as the result of a power failure.

Repair work is to continue this morning, Transdev announced. Red line services are operating as normal. Luas tickets are being accepted on Dublin Bus as services from Broomsbridge to Bridesglen remain out of order.

The Luas Green Line experienced a power failure yesterday morning, around 8:20am, causing a loss of power to the green line and a temporary loss of power to a section of the red line, which has been amended.

A spokesperson said: “Luas technicians have worked continuously, including overnight, across substations on the network to identify the location and nature of the fault and to restore power as safely and quickly as possible.

“Engineers have identified that the fault lies within a critical low-voltage safety system known as the 48-volt system. This is not the overhead power system that powers the trams.

“Rather, it is part of the safety network that links substations to the central control room and allows power to be safely controlled and monitored across the line.

“In simple terms, this safety system is designed to shut down power to the overhead lines in the event of an emergency. The system is currently detecting a fault condition and, for safety reasons, will not permit the power to be fully restored until that condition is resolved.”

Transdev is hoping to issue an update at 10am on the matter.
