Bill Clinton says he saw no evidence of Epstein trafficking women as deposition video released

The former US president and former secretary of state appeared before the House Oversight Committee last week to testify about their relations with Epstein.

A US CONGRESSIONAL committee investigating convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has released videos of the depositions of Bill and Hillary Clinton.

The former US president and former US secretary of state appeared before the House Oversight Committee last week to testify about their relations with Epstein.

Hillary Clinton told the panel that she did not know Epstein, and Bill Clinton said he broke ties with him before the financier’s sex crimes came to light in 2008.

Clinton also said President Donald Trump, a one-time close friend of Epstein, “never said anything to me to make me think he was involved in anything improper with regard to Epstein either.”

In statements to the committee, Bill Clinton said he had done “nothing wrong” and Hillary Clinton called for the panel to depose President Donald Trump, once a close friend of Epstein.

The lawmakers should ask Trump “directly under oath about the tens of thousands of times he shows up in the Epstein files,” she said.

Being mentioned in the Epstein files released by the Department of Justice does not imply wrongdoing and Bill Clinton – like Trump – has not been formally accused of a crime.

Clinton has acknowledged extensive interactions with Epstein but said he never visited his infamous private Caribbean island where the financier allegedly trafficked young women and girls to powerful business and political figures.

The former US President has acknowledged flying on Epstein’s private plane several times in the early 2000s for Clinton Foundation-related humanitarian work.

Clinton said he first remembered meeting Epstein when he flew aboard the financier’s private jet in 2002 for the Clintons’ humanitarian work and they parted ways the year after.

“There’s nothing that I saw when I was around him that made me realise he was trafficking women,” he told the committee.

Epstein visited the White House numerous times during Clinton’s presidency and there are photos of them shaking hands. Clinton said he did not recall those interactions.

In response to a Democratic member’s questions about a photo that showed him in a pool with a woman whose face was redacted, the former president said he did not know the woman and did not engage in sexual activity with her.

He said the photo was from a trip to Brunei for charitable work and a number of people in their travel party were swimming.

He also said he was not aware that one young woman, who was ostensibly working as a masseuse and gave him a neck massage on one flight, was a victim of sexual abuse.

Whether the subject was a note Clinton wrote for Epstein’s 50th birthday or their travel together for the Clinton Foundation, he described their relationship as little more than “cordial” and said Epstein provided his private jet for humanitarian trips in exchange for discussing politics and economics with him.

“We were friendly, but I didn’t know him well enough to say we were friends,” he said.

Epstein was convicted in 2008 of soliciting sex from girls as young as 14, but died in a New York jail cell in 2019 before he could be tried on sex trafficking charges.

His death was ruled a suicide but, like much else around Epstein, is the subject of lurid conspiracy theories.

The Clintons had initially rejected subpoenas ordering them to testify, but the Democratic power couple agreed to do so after House Republicans threatened to hold them in contempt of Congress.

During her deposition, Hillary Clinton called for the panel to depose Trump about his relations with Epstein, who died in a New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking.

Hillary Clinton angrily threatened at one point to cut the deposition short after a photo taken by a Republican lawmaker was released publicly in violation of the rules.

“I’m done with this. If you guys are doing that, I am done. You can hold me in contempt from now until the cows come home,” she said before pounding the table with her fist.

Democrats say the investigation is being weaponised to attack Trump’s political opponents rather than to conduct legitimate oversight.

The closed-door depositions were held last week in Chappaqua, New York, where the Clintons reside.
