THE LEVEL OF greenhouse gases emitted by Ireland’s industries fell by over seven per cent in 2013.
The latest figures from the EU Emissions Trading Scheme partners shows that around 100 Irish companies produced 15.68 tonnes of carbon dioxide last year, compared with 16.89 in 2012.
These include sites operating in the power generation, cement, lime, and oil refining sectors.
Also included are large companies in sectors such as food and drink, pharmaceuticals and semi-conductor producers.

Companies participating in the scheme are required to report their emissions to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The decrease in reported emissions for 2013 is largely due to lower emissions from the power generation sector, which saw a decrease of 11.5 per cent from the conventional power plants.
This decrease may be partly due to extended shutdowns of units at Moneypoint coal-fired power station, coupled with the availability of renewable energy.
Emissions from the cement production industry decreased by 4 per cent due to lower production levels, while companies in the food and drink sector reported an overall increase of the same amount.
Dr Maria Martin of the EPA said that radical change was needed to encourage companies to go green.
“We need radical structural reform of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme in order to ensure that the price of carbon will be at a level which incentivises real change in how we manage our energy requirements and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.”

to paraphrase Its a wonderful life, “i dont have your money its in Jim the civil servant’s petrol tank and John the quango head’s petrol tank. better be quick though they are booking their three week driving holiday in France at the moment…..
This country has had practically the same number of cattle since the early 80′s, and over the ages the Irish country side has been teaming with mammals. But now all of a sudden it’s causing global warming according to see at least and that’s despite even the alarmists admitting there has been no warming for 15 odd years. So they now call it climate change, which is astounding considering every scientist on the planet knows the climate has always changed & will continue to do so.
This is without doubt either the biggest mistake or biggest con ever made by modern society.
No scientific paper has ever referred to this situation as global warming. It was the media who picked up on the phrase and ran with it. Global warming and climate change are two seperate issues. The scientific community has always known this.
Yes climate change occurs naturally, but human influence is accelerating the process. This was proven with the last IPCC report.
I am a sceptic, I am a scientist. I am not a climate scientist but I understand the philosophy of science. If you think climate change is a politically motivated con, then I suggest you take a step back and look at who funds the side of the “argument” that you agree with.
The planet will adapt, that is not my concern. My concern is with geopolitical chaos and famine, on a scale we have never seen before.
No need to panic.
“As is evident from the last 15 years, the CO2-driven climate models (and the people pushing them) have a fundamental problem: They did not, or falsely predicted, the current climate development.
Meteorology professor emeritus Dr. Horst Malberg European Institute for Climate and Energy.
The IPCC confirmed in its fifth assessment report from last September: There has been no statistically significant warming in the last one and half decades, so global warming has stopped – and has done so even while CO2 emissions have increased. Could alarmists be persuaded to actually read the IPCC 5th assessment ?
As I said, global warming and climate change are separate issues. You are cherry picking a quote from a report which conludes that CLIMATE CHANGE is happening, and humans are a major catalyst.
Sorry Ipsum, I miss read your comment. However, Prof. Malberg is one indiviual in the 3% of scientists that dissagree with the conclusions of the IPCC report. I am not saying he should be disregarded because of his views, his opinion should be listened to, as should the “opinions” of the other 97%.
If these people actually believed in climate changeglobal warming then they would be restricting air traffic (who got a free pass from EU carbon beaurocrats) and restricting the use of high capacity engine vehicles.
But they dont want to do that because they love planes and big cars
The reason there’s a 7% drop in green house gasses from Irish industries is because more and more are going into liquidation and closing down as SME’s are still struggling.
Lovelock, on BBC TV, slams the global warming claims including those of of the United Nations climate panel. ‘They just guess. And a whole group of them meet together and encourage each other’s guesses.’
When the UNCCC set up the IPCC Maurice Strong had this to say
“It is clear that current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle class…involving high meat intake, consumption of large amounts of frozen and convenience foods, ownership of motor vehicles, golf courses, small electric appliances, home and work place air-conditioning, and suburban housing are not sustainable…A shift is necessary toward lifestyles less geared to environmentally damaging consumption patterns.”
The IPCC is a political body and always has been.
“So we have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we might have.” Stephen Schneider, another of the founders of the fraud.
I’m talking about the material and energy cost of the all the products we use, particularly electronics. The energy for a microchip alone is immense. I can’t remember the stat but I know it’s high.
Yayyy, and whatever little pissant amount we supposedly produce in the climate change hoax,is proably immediately swallowed up by China or the planet itself without a hiccup.
