Herbal cannabis flown on four flights worth a combined €3.1m seized at Dublin Airport

Three of the seizures were against passengers who disembarked flights from Doha, while the fourth had travelled from Thailand.

REVENUE SEIZED OVER 160kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of over €3.1 million at Dublin Airport over the course of the last six days.

On Saturday, as part of routine operations, Revenue officers seized around 35.2kg of herbal cannabis concealed in vacuum-packed packages within the baggage of a woman (30s) who had disembarked a flight originating from Doha.

On Tuesday, around 68.2kg of herbal cannabis was seized with the assistance of Revenue detector dog Charlie in the baggage of two male passengers, aged in their 20s and 40s, who had disembarked a flight originating from Bangkok, via Doha.

A further 35.2kg of herbal cannabis was discovered on Wednesday. It was concealed in within the baggage of another woman in her 30s, who had also flown from Doha. 

On Thursday, Revenue officers searched the baggage of a man in his 20s who had travelled from Thailand. With the assistance of detector dog Dara, around 21.9kg of herbal cannabis was discovered during the search. 

All the passengers involved were subsequently arrested by gardaí under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 and have since been charged.

“These back-to-back seizures highlight the vigilance and professionalism of our officers. We remain committed to protecting the public and disrupting criminal activity at every opportunity,” a Revenue spokesperson said. 

Investigations are continuing.

The seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.
