A BEAUTIFUL GARDEN of any size can work as an extension of the home, offer somewhere new to entertain guests or provide a space to test your green thumb.
This week, we’re looking at homes around the country that feature beautiful mature gardens – from a four-bed near Waterford to a stone-cut farmhouse in Co Kerry.
A four-bed property, Coreen is a character-filled home on a site of 0.6 acres. It features lush lawns to the front, side and rear, with a high boundary wall adding a sense of privacy. There are mature trees and shrubs throughout, while a stone wall with a feature archway divides the rear garden from the rest of the grounds. If the beautiful gardens aren’t enough to keep you busy, a large glasshouse is located here.
As for the house itself, Coreen measures 2,250 sq ft of bright and airy accommodation. It comprises three large reception rooms with picture windows, four bedrooms, a kitchen and breakfast room, a bathroom and two attic rooms. Each of the rooms enjoy a unique feel, with features including marble fireplaces, oak floors and a stained glass front door. Waterford city centre is a five-minute drive away.
With a primary school, playground and shopping centre less than 20 minutes’ walk away, plus large mature gardens, this four-bed bungalow in Briarhill is an ideal family home. The property features a front and back garden, with a selection of trees, shrubs and a glasshouse to the rear, making it perfect for young children and pets to play in.
Inside, the home has been upgraded to include several new features, including a main bathroom, an en suite bathroom, an alarm system and a stove in the living room. Subject to relevant planning permission, there’s the option to extend the existing accommodation or the detached garage.
A stone-cut farmhouse set on beautiful grounds, River Lodge is an instantly appealing property. Mature trees, including river birch and oak, provide total privacy, while the mixture of lawn and gravel gardens are ideal for both relaxing and entertaining. There’s also a selection of outbuildings, including a home office and study.
River Lodge boasts a charming yet modern interior, which features exposed brick walls and contemporary finishes throughout, including a bespoke kitchen with sleek cabinets. This space continues on to the dining area, where double doors open to the gardens. Also on the ground floor is a living room with a wood-burning stove, a study and a double bedroom. On the first floor, there are three bedrooms, two en suite bathrooms and the main bathroom.
Measuring 3,045 sq ft, Kildarra Lodge is a spacious and bright property that comes to the market in turn-key condition. The south-facings gardens of 0.5 acres are professionally landscaped and feature a natural stone pathway from the front of the property to a small dining area. Inside, an open-plan living and dining room act as the heart of the home, with double-height ceilings, large feature windows, wooden beams and a wood-burning stove in here.
Kildarra Lodge also benefits from an upstairs lounge, wood flooring, an oak kitchen with an Aga and a double garage. The property is surrounded by tranquil countryside walks, while Inishannon village is less than a 10-minute drive away, and Kinsale town is a 20-minute drive away.
