FINDING A HOME that matches your budget without compromising your list of must-haves can be tricky, but we’re here to make that task easier.
Each week we round up a selection of homes currently on the market in Ireland around the same price point, giving you a snapshot of what a particular amount could get you.
This week, we’re looking at properties around the country with an asking price of exactly €300,000 – a budget that might just help you get on the property market or upgrade to a slightly bigger spot, depending on your area.
In Killucan, Co. Westmeath, €300,000 will get you an old parochial house with three bedrooms and four bathrooms. St. Joseph’s Parochial House is a detached house surrounded by green in every direction. Built in 1890, the former Roman Catholic building has two large reception rooms with high ceilings and detailed cornices, as well as a homey kitchen including a traditional Aga stove.
Upstairs, there are three bedrooms, two of which are en suite, as well as a prayer room with stained glass windows, which might make a nice office if you weren’t as religiously inclined. The home is walking distance to Killucan and Rathwire villages, and an easy drive to the M4 and M6 motorways at Kinnegad.
In Mayo, this budget will net you six bedrooms and five bathrooms in a detached house on three quarters of an acre of land. Goulboy, in Kiltimagh, was built in 2000, and has over 3,000 square feet of space. Four of the six bedrooms are en suite, and the home has timber flooring throughout, except in the kitchen, which is tiled. There is an additional room used for a playroom or a study.
There is also a workshop and turf shed on the property, as well as a concrete-floored garage. Goulboy is situated less than 2 km from Kiltimagh town, and 8 km from Knock.
Heading down to the sunny southeast, you’ll find a five-bedroom, three-bathroom detached home in Gorey. Curraghduff Lodge is in a rural area, but still affords you good proximity to Gorey town and Ballycanew village.
Inside, the kitchen/dining area looks out over the garden and opens onto a sunroom with a south-facing patio beyond. Two bedrooms are situated on the ground floor, including one that is en suite, making for easy access for those not keen on climbing stairs as often. Outside, there is a large lawn and stable at the back of the garden.
Back in Dublin, €300,000 will get you a three-bedroom, two-bathroom semi-detached house in Clonsilla, west of the city. The home has a light-filled extension in the back, where the kitchen and dining area benefit from a pitched ceiling with skylights over the new cabinetry and island.
16 Oakview Drive is located in a quiet cul de sac in a residential neighbourhood, and the garden is west-facing, so you’ll be able to enjoy whatever sunshine comes your way. Clonsilla is nicely located with close proximity to Dublin city centre via frequently-running bus routes, and the Phoenix Park is only a fifteen minute drive away.
