Long-range rescue mission airlifts crew member from ship in 'challenging' conditions

The long-range operation saw a crew member evacuated from the Eagle 2 container ship in challenging sea conditions this afternoon.

THE IRISH COAST Guard completed the emergency airlift of a crew member requiring medical attention from a container ship off the south-west coast this afternoon.

The long-range operation took place in challenging sea conditions 110 nautical miles south-west of Castletownbere in Co Cork.

The rescue mission took place at 4.30pm and was coordinated by the Valentia Coast Guard. The Rescue 115 helicopter, assisted by a fixed-wing plane, airlifted the crew member from the Eagle 2.
